A Christmas Meal…

By | Cooking Classes | No Comments

7fishes

For a Holiday that holds high in tradition, why must we ask ourselves every year- what are we eating for Christmas Dinner?  Maybe it’s because we’re burnt out on Thanksgiving must-haves like Turkey & Stuffing which are practically engraved in our dinner table.  Sure, some Christmas chefs dive right back into Turkey, and that’s fine and dandy, but we like to do something a little different.

At our house we cook a traditional Italian meal called The Feast of the 7 Fishes. Originating from Southern Italy, you guessed it, it’s a feast that includes seven different fishes. There are many hypotheses for what the number “7” represents. Seven is the most repeated number in the Bible and appears over 700 times. Other theories state that the number ‘7’ represents the Seven hills of Rome that surround the city.

Whatever the seven fishes stand for, we can all agree, it’s a delicious meal.  This year we prepared Oysters on the Half Shell, Homemade Calamari, Clam & Fish Chowder, Caviar en Croute, Sesame Salmon Filets and Brown Butter Scallops.  Yummy!

What are some of your holiday traditions?

Not sure what to get that special someone for the Holidays? How about something Curious….

t96The St. Thomas Rutherford Foundation’s annual Holiday party was a hit! Every year the influential women of the foundation get together to throw a benefit for the St. Thomas Hospital, a hospital that provides non-insured patients with medical care. This year The Curious Kitchen had the privilege of catering the event, crafting a signature Ginger Pear & Sage Cocktail, and  providing a live Holiday Cooking & Cocktail demonstration. The festivities also included a Holiday Fashion tutorial by E. Allen, along with a decorating demo by Lori Sain of Daffodilly Design. It was an unforgettable night and we were so happy to be part of it.

The Curious Kitchen’s Signature Ginger Pear & Sage Cocktail:

3/4 oz. sage & ginger simple syrup

Hey there, Curious Cooks!

We are so happy to have our feet off the ground and have our dream business up and running!  We’ve been extremely busy and so much is happening- it’s hard to believe we’ve only been open for three weeks!  So far, we’ve held multiple hands-on cooking classes and our community response has been positive. Thank you all so much for the support!

Classes are a few times a week and each one seems to be more fun and delicious than the next! We think the pictures from Date Night last friday speak for themselves. We began the night with a Rocket Salad with Goat Cheese & Pecans. Then we all got busy making Chicken Piccata, Prosciutto wrapped Asparagus and Parmesan Mashed Potatoes. For dessert? Sexy chocolate souffles, because after all, it was date night. Ooo La La.
